Charleville Hospital has been classified as a rural hospital, under new guidelines for rural and remote health facilities that are being introduced progressively across the state.

The Charleville Hospital is a 24-bed facility that provides 24-hour acute and emergency care, including maternity and theatre services, plus retrievals with the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The hospital currently is undergoing a $5.3 million upgrade and refurbishment program that also includes the replacement of ageing water piping. These works are expected to be completed by August 2015.

Charleville Hospital employs senior medical officers who operate a general practice outpatients clinic and provide inpatient and emergency care.

The medical imaging department has a licensed radiographer and X-ray operators with an on-call service for after-hours emergencies. Basic ultrasound services are available.

Specialist surgical, obstetrics and gynaecology services are delivered to Charleville Hospital through the flying surgeon and the flying obstetrician/gynaecologist, who visit the facility every three weeks and in some emergency situations.

A suite of community and allied health services are available, including a cardiology clinic, alcohol and drugs, child development, diabetes education, dental, mental health, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology.

Antenatal clinics are available weekly at the maternity ward and in the community.
