Coolenberg dates back to the mid 1800s when James Butler purchased the land and established a vineyard.  In 1860 he built the Coolenberg homestead using Victorian Georgian architecture.  It was originally a single story cottage with 10 foot ceiling and polished wood floors.

Between 1969 and 1975 additions were made to the original homestead.

Coolenberg Restaurant was established in 1995 and a Reception Centre in 1996.

The next refurbishment saw Coolenberg Clinic develop.

In 2008 the property was acquired by Ramsay Health Care and opened in February 2009 as a Day Surgery Unit.  This facility has 2 theatres as well as the 2 procedure rooms, 4 recovery beds and 6 recovery chairs.  Specialties include but are not limited to Ophthalmology and Plastic Surgery.

As well as a Day Surgery Coolenberg contains consulting rooms for specialist Medical Practitioners.
